Overview
The Management of Human Resources (Hons) programme at Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College is designed to enable students to benefit from an offering of general education courses as they pursue a business education with a specialisation in human resource management.
Accordingly, students in this programme will be required to study a range of general education, business, and human resource management courses to achieve a balanced liberal arts and business education.
This is consistent with UIC’s mission of providing its students with a holistic education that prepares them for lifelong learning. The general business courses provide a more focused course offering in respect to the knowledge and skills expected of today’s business and business leaders. The human resource management courses are designed to provide an even more focused education in the major specialism.
Career Prospects
The management of human resources will continue to play a strategic role in China’s economic development. This role will become even more critical to China as it moves up the value chain of its economic development.
China’s continued success in competing with other emerging markets for attracting foreign direct investments will depend not only on its ability to produce more engineers and scientists, but also on whether it can produce sufficient professional managers, particularly human resource professionals to lead and motivate employees to meet industry demands.
There is a tendency in China for companies to assign human resource management functions mainly to personnel administrative areas, such as legal compliance, records maintenance, and issuance of personnel policies. A more modern Management of Human Resources Programme offered by UIC aims to remove this thinking from graduates and to replace it with a business strategic view of HRM.
Thus, a human resource management professional is a strategic partner of an organization, and human resource activities and programmes are organized to support the achievement of an organization’s goals and objectives.
China’s emergence and increasing prominence on the world stage will raise the demand for human resource management skills and practices, in addition to international foresight and competence in the English language.
This trend will lead to a strong and growing employment market, supported by local and foreign international companies, for graduates from the MHR programme.
