Overview
Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Gulf Medical University is a four year degree program designed to produce highly skilled and competent nursing professionals. Students enrolled in nursing sciences program will be trained to work in a variety of challenging healthcare settings and also develop skills of critical thinking and problem-solving.
BSN graduates are prepared to:
- Assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses at a basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.
- Make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice.
- Assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in clinical/public health settings.
Who is a Professional Nurse?
- Professional nurses act as core members of the healthcare team by providing direct care and making decisions regarding the care of healthy, ill and injured people.
- Nurses provide holistic evidence-based care to individuals, families and community so that they may maintain, attain or recover optimum health and improve their quality of life.
- A nurse is a highly skilled health care professional who combines the art of caring with scientific knowledge, competencies and attitude developed through education.

Upon successful completion of the BSN program and after fulfilling the local license/regulatory requirements the graduates can:
- Work as a registered nurse or nursing supervisor in different healthcare settings that range from clinics, hospitals, community, industrial establishments, educational institutions, travel, defence etc.
- Advance in career as Nurse Educator, Nurse administrator/manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse practitioner by pursuing higher education as Master of Science in Nursing in specialty areas like Medical Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Child Health/Pediatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, Infection Control Nursing etc.
- Work as Consultants, Directors, Deans, Entrepreneurs, and Researchers etc. after completing Ph.D. in any of the specialities.

General requirements
- The applicant must have completed a minimum of 12 years of school education.
- All applicants must complete 17 years of age on or before the 31st of December in the year of admission.
- The applicant must have passed any one of the following English Language Proficiency Tests with a minimum score as follows:1100 in Emirates Standardized Language Test (EmSAT)
- 500 in TOEFL (CBT 173 – iBT 61)
- 5.0 in IELTS for Academic
- English proficiency minimum requirement is mandatory before registration.
- UAE applicant for the BSN program must score a minimum of EmSAT Arabic 600 and all international students shall register for a non-credit based Basic Arabic Language course in the Institution or submit EmSAT Arabic with 600. Until successful completion of Basic Arabic language, student shall be placed on conditional admission.
