Overview
The Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Gulf Medical University's curriculum focuses on achieving the required outcomes through an integrated learning experience. Our faculty and staff are dedicated towards academia, professional development, research, and community service. They are committed to provide student-centered instructions to help students in achieving academic excellence.
Pre-clinical training is offered in state of art dental simulation laboratories and the clinical training is offered in a JCI accredited Thumbay Dental Hospitals. Students can choose to undertake elective training within the country or across the globe to widen their experience. There are three branches of Thumbay Dental Hospitals located in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
The college also offers a one-year internship program for GMU and non-GMU graduates. This program is tailored to provide the maximum clinical exposure to the dental students in the region.
The college is in collaboration with reputed and prestigious international universities like Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Japan, Kiehl University in Germany, Saveetha Institute of Medical & Technical Sciences in India, San Raffaele Dental School in Italy, British University and Ain Shams University in Egypt.
Program Goals
- Maintain a high standard of dental education, research, and services.
- Produce competent, confident, and high employable dentists. Widening access to higher education by producing highly competent graduates that are capable of carrying out postgraduate studies at local and international universities.
- Enable graduates to develop their capacity to learn and to become independent learners. Provide broad-based a scientifically strong education in dentistry that equips the graduates to enter all areas of the profession and to adapt to changes that may occur during their professional life.
- Produce graduates who are able to communicate and deliver dental care both in community and hospital settings.
- Ensure that students acquire a clear understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities towards their communities and humanity at large.
- Participating in the process of improving and implementing oral health care in UAE in cooperation with public and private sectors.
- Cooperating with local and international dental education and research centers in the field of research in order to enhance scientific knowledge in oral medicine and dental health care.
- Participating in local and international scientific meetings.
Accreditation
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program was initially accredited in 2008 and received final accreditation in 2018 by Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education, UAE.

General requirements
- The applicant must have completed a minimum of 12 years of school education.
- All applicants must complete 17 years of age on or before the 31st of December in the year of admission.
- The applicant must have passed any one of the following English Language Proficiency Tests with a minimum score as follow:
- 1100 in Emirates Standardized Language Test (EmSAT)
- 500 in TOEFL (CBT 173 – iBT 61)
- 5.0 in IELTS for Academic
- EmSAT Arabic is mandatory. UAE applicant for BDS must score EmSAT Arabic of 800 minimum and all international students shall register for a non-credit Basic Arabic Language course in the Institution or submit EmSAT Arabic with 800. Those not completed Arabic will be on conditional admission.
