Law with Criminology offered by the University of Essex allows you to explore not only legal rules, but how law operates in society and responds to issues such as social justice, crime prevention and criminal justice policy.

You study key areas of English law including contract law, public law, criminal law, tort law and land law, alongside criminology topics such as crime, punishment, policing, justice and social responses to offending.

This dual focus makes the course ideal if you are interested in criminal justice, social policy, human rights or the wider societal impact of law. It offers a broader perspective than a traditional law degree by combining legal training with sociological and criminological insight.

The qualifying law degree is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for the purposes of satisfying the academic stage of training.

A-levels: ABB, including one essay based subject

GCSEs: Law with Finance requires GCSE Maths grade C/4

BTEC: DDD, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.

IB: 32 points or three Higher Level certificates with 655, including a Higher Level essay based subject grade 5.

We are also happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programme Courses (formerly certificates) at both Higher and Standard Level.

We can also consider combinations with BTECs or other qualifications in the Career-related programme – the acceptability of BTECs and other qualifications depends on the subject studied, advice on acceptability can be provided.

Access to HE Diploma: 15 level 3 credits at Distinction and 30 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.
