Overview
Psychology is the study of the mind and mental processes in relation to behaviour. In addition to studying the mind and mental processes in relation to behaviour, Applied Psychology is especially concerned with the practical applications of psychology to everyday life, including issues related to technology, health, education, and rehabilitation. This level 8 degree is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
What will I be able to do when I graduate?
Graduates can progress to the fields of professional psychology. The modules in Applied Psychology (Hons) give graduates a competitive edge when applying for postgraduate studies, or employment in the technology or social science sectors.
Applied Psychology (Hons) graduates from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology can pursue postgraduate studies in psychology (e.g., clinical psychology, educational psychology, and work and organisational psychology). General requirements
- Courses that require a portfolio submission (see course pages) are referred to by the Central Applications Office as ‘restricted application’ as they have special requirements (portfolio assessment)
- In general, in terms of Irish Leaving Certificate matriculation for level 8 degrees is either
- 2 H5 required i.e. 6 subjects at ordinary level grade 6 or better including 2 with minimum of grade 5 at higher level
- 3 H5 required i.e. 6 subjects at ordinary level grade 6 or better including 3 with minimum of grade 5 at higher level.
- For level 7/6 awards, matriculation is normally 5 subjects at ordinary level grade 5 or better
- In all cases English must be normally included as one of the recognised subjects.
- Applicants should check the HEIs website for other specific subjects needed for particular courses
