By taking the Music course at University of Galway you will acquire skills through composing original music, performing in solo and ensemble settings, and diving into the history, theory, and cultural contexts of music through research. You can apply these skills through work placement and broaden your horizons through studying abroad.

The BA in Music equips you with many skills not only relevant to Music but other areas, as you will build literary, digital, linguistic, analytical, performative, and creative skills throughout your studies. 

This broad skillset opens many doors and BA in Music graduates go on to careers in such fields as performance, teaching, composition, academia, sound engineering, music therapy, arts administration, journalism, broadcasting, publishing, librarianship and archivism. In some cases, this may require a further vocational qualification or postgraduate study. 

The BA in Music programme has been designed to meet the requirements of the Irish Teaching Council, so graduates will be qualified to use music as a teaching subject as part of their study for a postgraduate degree in post-primary education. 

Students can combine the study of music with subjects such as Psychology, Legal Studies, Information Technology or Languages, all of which open up career opportunities in those areas.
