Overview
In this Bachelor of Arts in Latin (Honours) at University of Johannesburg we work with the Latin language, literature, artefacts, philosophy, history and religion. Not only do students develop their own analytical skills by participating in this course; they also understand the ways in which we as human beings give meaning to our existence through the use of symbols and complexes of symbols which come to us from ancient times.
What you'll learn
- All documents are read in the original language, supplying students with the ability to interpret inscriptions, texts and artefacts in a reasoned manner. An appreciation of the influence of Latin on modern English is also developed.

- Latin Grammar and Translation (including unprepared translation)
- Roman History (a specific period with a study of the relevant sources)
- Roman Culture (a topic on one or more of archaeology, philosophy, social and political institutions (e.g. jurisprudence), religion, rhetoric).
