Overview
Micro- and macroeconomics
The Economics program provides a solid foundation in micro- and macroeconomics. In macroeconomics, you will study the relationship between factors such as national income, consumption, unemployment, inflation, interest rates, investment, international trade, and international finance.
In microeconomics, the focus is on the actions of individual agents, such as firms and consumers, and how their behavior determines prices and quantities in specific markets. Other subjects covered in the program are international trade, public finance, and development economics.
Specialized focus on economics
The Economics program at Tilburg University takes a unique approach: whereas other universities in the Netherlands combine business and economics, Tilburg University offers a specialized program with a strong focus on economics in all its forms. Therefore, the only business courses in the program are the two basic first-year courses in Finance and Accounting. Another important aspect are the two philosophy courses in the program, which are a hallmark of your education at Tilburg University. In the third year, you can choose from a wide variety of electives, such as Experimental and Behavioral Economics, Competition Policy and Regulation, or The Economics of Banking, and Finance.
Career prospects
With a diploma of the bachelor Economics, you have access to a variety of Master’s programs, ranging from Economics and Finance to International Management, with excellent job perspectives due to the high reputation of Tilburg University, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Our graduates can be found in various different positions in both the private and public sector, for example: economic analyst or consultant at a multinational firm, bank or insurance company; a policy advisor at a central bank, a ministry or the European Commission; or as a researcher and lecturer at a university.
