Overview
The Physical Education (Hons) programme of the Plymouth Marjon University has links to numerous schools across the South West which will allow you to develop a robust understanding of physical education through hands on experience of teaching across the three years of your degree. You will study in world-class sports facilities at the University including our BASES accredited sports science laboratory, climatic chamber, 25m swimming pool and numerous 4G and astro-turf pitches. BA (Hons) Physical Education is taught by experienced academics within physical education alongside other experts in the field.
This course includes a 100 hour PE placement during second year. This can take place in either a primary school, secondary school or special educational needs school. There is also an opportunity to carry out 50 hours in a primary school and 50 hours in a secondary school, expanding your breadth of knowledge and allowing you to make informed decisions about your future career.
You don’t need Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) skills prior to starting the course. In order to achieve QTS you will need to follow this degree with a PGCE or School Direct programme.
Key facts
Most graduates are likely to join a PGCE or School Direct postgraduate programme to become a teacher in either primary or secondary education. Your skills and experiences on the programme could also help you move into other roles in education, coaching, sport, sport development. There is also opportunity to go onto further postgraduate study through a range of Masters’ programmes.

Three A-levels at grades CCC or above.
Or BTEC triple grades MMM or above.
Or Access 23-45 D/M with min 6D.
And GCSE English Language at grade 4 or grade C or above.
A DBS check is required.

- NGB Coaching Awards
- Leadership Awards (JSLA, CSLA, HSLA) or equivalent
- Work experience (ideally in the education and/or coaching sector)
