Overview
Biotechnology (Honours) at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman is the application of advances made in the biological sciences, especially involving the science of genetics and its application. Biotechnology has helped improve food quality, quantity and processing; its application also include producing chemicals through manipulating simple cells and proteins. Biotechnology also has important implications in health and medicine. Through genetic engineering, scientists have been able to create new medicines, including interferon for cancer patients, synthetic human growth hormone and synthetic insulin, among others.
Students are introduced to the knowledge and practical skills in the various aspects of biotechnology and principles of instrumentation. Through final year project, student will acquire specialised skills in selected areas of biotechnology such as genomics, fermentation, plant biotechnology, phytochemistry and bioinformatics.

- Admission to UTAR is on purely meritocratic basis. You are expected to satisfy the academic qualification and English Language requirement set by the University. Some programmes may have additional requirements such as the submission of a drawing portfolio, and an interview before the University decides on the admission.
