Key facts
The Applied Psychology and Business Management (Honours) programme of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University aims to strengthen students’ knowledge and skills in both applied psychology and business management so that they can better understand the behaviour of individuals in groups and diverse work settings using a psychological perspective, and enjoy the competitive edge thereby developed when they enter the working world.
Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILO)
- Explain and critically review the development of and logic behind the main ideas, frameworks and theories of various business-related disciplines.
- Critically review and deal with ethical issues that may arise in the conduct of business and within organizations and propose solutions for the issues.
- Critically analyse and evaluate major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical and cultural trends in psychology.
- Synthesize insights into people’s behaviors and mental processes, taking individual differences and contextual influences into consideration.
- Apply research methods, including research design, data analysis and interpretation, to formulate evidence-based response to routine and professional problems in diverse settings.
- Integrate and apply concepts and theories of business management and psychology to identify issues, analyse situations, and make informed judgements.
Career Prospects
Graduates can pursue a career in psychology or people-oriented business areas such as marketing, human resource management, and community services. In addition, by completing the psychology courses in different subjects in the programme, students may apply to be a graduate member of the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
Further Studies
Opportunities are available for the graduates of this programme to pursue postgraduate studies in Hong Kong and abroad, such as Master of Business Administration degree or other master degrees in business- or psychology-related areas.

General requirements
- Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to obtain Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language, as well as Level 2 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies and an elective subject (or equivalent).
- Applicants with local academic qualifications other than HKDSE are required to:
- Complete Year 1 study of a recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma programme; or
- Obtain Grade E or above in AS Chinese Language & Culture4 and Use of English, and 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS / 4 AS subjects in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (or equivalent).
- Applicants with non-local academic qualifications are required to obtain:
- Grade E or above in 2 AL / 1AL plus 2 AS subjects5 in the General Certificate of Education AL / International AL; or
- An overall minimum score of 24 in the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
- Other equivalent overseas academic qualifications (as determined by the University).
