Key facts
By extending study into two summer vacations, students will be able to complete five years’ work within four years and – one in English Language Teaching and English Language Studies (Honours). The English Language Teaching and Bachelor of English Language Studies (Honours) programme of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University aims to develop a good understanding of the structure, use and learning of the English language, and sound professional knowledge and skills required of an English language teacher.

- Graduate in 4 years taking 2 summer terms in Years 2 and 3
- Gain working experience and valuable credential at school through the unique internship-cum-teaching practice arrangement lasting for one full semester in Year 3

Structure
During the four years of study, students will need to complete 200 credits of courses:
- 185 credits in the two major subjects, namely English and Education
- 10 credits of general education and outside-discipline courses

Other requirements
General requirements
- Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to obtain Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language, as well as Level 2 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies and an elective subject (or equivalent).
- Applicants with local academic qualifications other than HKDSE are required to:
- Complete Year 1 study of a recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma programme; or
- Obtain Grade E or above in AS Chinese Language & Culture and Use of English, and 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS / 4 AS subjects in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (or equivalent).
- Applicants with non-local academic qualifications are required to obtain:
- Grade E or above in 2 AL / 1AL plus 2 AS subjects5 in the General Certificate of Education AL / International AL; or
- An overall minimum score of 24 in the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
- Other equivalent overseas academic qualifications (as determined by the University).
