Programme Description
The initial 4 semesters of the International Management Studies in the Baltic Sea Region (BMS) programme offered by the Hochschule Stralsund - University of Applied Sciences introduce students to general business administration (such as cost accounting, economics, mathematics and law) and focuses on international management theory, cross-cultural management, corporate finance and the history and development of the Baltic Sea Region.
To allow students to acquire special competence and deepen their skills, in the 5th and 6th semesters, students have to choose 2 of 4 Majors, viz. Management and Innovation, International finance and trade, Markets and communication as well as German Business.
As for languages studied, Business English is compulsory; as is one language from the Baltic Sea Region - Norwegian, Polish, Russian or Swedish - and our international students study German as a Foreign Language.
BMS is highly practice-oriented due to 13-week pre-study practical before you join, guest lectures, working on real projects, organization of special events, national and international excursions, one semester abroad is mandatory (either as study or internship semester) and an obligatory 20-week internship. Final-year students write a dissertation on international topics, which finalises their preparation for an international career.

They are ready for a broad range of positions with a large degree of responsibility and demand the efficient handling of complex processes and the coordination of the work of teams. Graduates work in the most diverse fields of international business, such as consulting firms, banks, freight forwarders, trade organisations etc.

- Secondary school leaving certificate (Abitur or equivalent) or
- College leaving certificate from a technical college (Fachhochschulreife or equivalent) or
- Master’s certificate under the apprenticeship system (Meisterabschluss) or equivalent professional vocational training examination or
- Entrance examination
- This program requires a preliminary internship of 13 weeks that has to have been completed by the end of the fourth semester. It is recommended that the internship is completed at least 8 weeks prior to commencement of studies.
