About

This programme will give you an in-depth understanding of the science behind sport and exercise, including the roles of biomechanics, physiology and psychology in sport performance. You’ll also choose from specialised areas such as nutrition, performance analysis, and strength and conditioning.

The courses offer masterclasses delivered by sport and exercise science professionals who will share their own career experiences with you. You’ll also become skilled in testing and measuring health and fitness, using the latest computer software to analyse performance results in our state-of-the-art facilities.

There is the requirement to undertake a work placement during both your first and second years to help you translate theory into practice. Former students have enjoyed placements with Derby County FC, Leicester City FC, Leicester Tigers RFU and Derbyshire County Cricket Club as well as local schools, hospitals and leisure centres. Some students go on to secure employment as a result of their placements.

As part of the course, you’ll have the chance to gain additional sport and exercise science professional qualifications which are recognised and highly valued by employers. These include National Governing Body coaching awards and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) Higher Professional Diploma. All will develop your confidence and leadership skills.
