What's covered in the course?

Our mental health nursing course will provide you with all the clinical skills, experience and knowledge needed to successfully support those with mental health problems.

As a mental health nurse you will be required to work with people in a range of settings and complex situations. You must display excellent communication and observational skills whilst assisting service users through their problems, to help them lead a positive and healthy life. Nursing - Mental Health (Hons) course is provided by Birmingham City University. Work placements are built into every year of this course, providing you with excellent experience and practical skills for when you graduate.

In addition to your practical experience, you will explore important aspects of values, ethics, research, physiology and social policy to ensure that you are a professional mental health nurse when graduating.

Employment opportunities

Once qualified and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council you can practice in the UK and many countries overseas. As a qualified nurse you could find yourself working within the NHS, the private sector, in the community, at GP surgeries, at schools, plus many more - the options are endless.

Level 2 qualifications which must be achieved PRIOR to application for all applicants except Access Students;
A minimum of three GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (formerly Grade C), must include English Language, Mathematics and one of Health and Social Car, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science double/triple award or equivalent.
