The Sociology and Social Informatics programme at National Research University - Higher School of Economics (HSE) includes not only general and specific sociological and humanities topics, but also mathematics and computer science, giving students the opportunity to become proficient in programming and information systems.
Courses in the humanities, social sciences, and other areas help students to develop skills in critical thinking and sociological research methodology. Graduates go on to work at consulting and marketing companies, internet advertising agencies, and digital start-ups, as well as in the online gaming industry and digital media.
The combination of sociological "core", managerial, analytical and IT disciplines defines the multifaceted modern work profile.

The programme includes strong theoretical Social Science core, including courses on Sociological Theory, Research Methodology and Methods, Economics, Social Stratification and Inequality, Argumentation and Academic Writing, strong Mathematics and Data Analysis core, and electives in applied topics in digital marketing, business and organizations, or focused on model building and data-analytical skills, or general issues of sociology like Youth Studies or Social Anthropology.
Besides traditional lectures, seminars and computer labs students also have research and applied project work of their choice. Our faculty invite academically-motivated students to participate in group projects, like Social Media studies, Learning Analytics, Gamification, Digital Urbanism, Youth Studies etc.

Tuition fee in the national currency is 290.000 RUB per year.
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
International students can apply to study at HSE for free through full-tuition scholarships. This merit-based scholarship will completely waive all tuition fees for selected full-degree Bachelor's programmes at HSE. However, the full-tuition scholarships are not available for double-degree programmes with the University of London and Kyung Hee University.
