Overview
The Chemical Engineering programme of University of Bahrain students delve into core chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction engineering. Advanced topics cover separation processes, process modeling and simulation, process control, and plant design, culminating in a Capstone Plant Design project. The undergraduate program includes two laboratory courses, namely Chemical Engineering Lab I and Chemical Engineering Lab II. Students conduct experiments in thermodynamics, unit operations, reaction engineering, and process control.
Key facts
The program also includes one period of summer training of two-month duration at the end of the third year. Students are placed in relevant industrial companies to gain additional practical experience. In the fourth year, students undertake two design projects: Design Project I and Design Project II. Both projects emphasize teamwork and independent learning. Field trips are also arranged in coordination with the relevant industrial companies.
In their final year, students specialize in either Process Systems (emphasizing process design, optimization, and control) or Oil and Gas (concentrating on petroleum engineering, refinery operations, natural gas processing, and petrochemicals). Each specialization requires five dedicated major electives, with additional electives available for further focus. General education courses in Islamic culture, Arabic, English communication, Bahraini history and citizenship, and human rights round out the curriculum, fostering communication skills and ethical awareness.
