Overview
In the Psychology program offered by Tilburg University you will experience different teaching methods, such as lectures and seminars, practicals, group assignments, skills training and personal guidance and coaching from an academic mentor. Examination methods may vary as well. Exams, smaller tests, papers and presentations are different ways of assessment used during the program in Psychology.
You will acquire a solid foundation in various fields of Psychology, preparing you for a diverse range of professional fields, including health and social services, mental health, organizational leadership and management, community and public relations, education, program development and facilitation, and social science research. Build up expertise in the areas of your choice: design your own study program by choosing a major in the second year, followed by a subsequent minor in your third year. You can also gain international experience by spending a semester at a partner university abroad without study delay.
- In the first general year of your Bachelor's program, you are introduced to all of the interesting focus areas that form the essential basis for your future program in psychology. This will help you to make a choice from the majors and minors that you will further explore.
- In addition to a number of advanced courses and statistics courses, in the second year you will choose a unique major that forms the core of your future program. You will follow a specialization course in each study period, learn professional skills in the major of your choice, and conduct supervised research in small groups.
- In the third year, you will conclude your major with a course that focuses on professional practice. After finishing your major, you will individually shape your program by choosing a minor and two electives. You will conclude your program with a Bachelor's thesis in the field of your major.
You can specialize in one of the following majors:
- Clinical Psychology
- Cognitive Neuropsychology
- Developmental Psychology and Lifespan Psychology
- Economic Psychology
- Forensic Psychology
- Medical Psychology
- Psychological Methods and Data Science
- Social Psychology
- Work and Organizational Psychology
Career prospects
After graduating from this program, you can work in positions at an academic level in research, communication, policy, consulting, clinical psychology, human development and organization development. You can occupy a position in private, semi-private or governmental organizations.
Following your Bachelor's, you can also continue towards a Master's degree, which enables you to conduct further theoretical and applied research to advance scientific knowledge in the areas of social, economic, and work and organizational psychology. You will then be able to develop tools and interventions to solve practical problems in these areas and to research the effectiveness thereof.
