Overview
This program is interactive, encouraging curiosity and helping you learn to express your opinions in a diverse, multicultural setting. Much attention is paid to language and writing skills, whereby students learn to actively contribute to digital culture on our own online magazine platform by writing papers and opinion pieces.
Program outline
You will gain a solid foundation in the dynamics of (social) media landscapes and online culture, including comprehending how algorithms shape our digital lives. You enhance your critical thinking and research skills. Customize your program with electives tailored to your academic interests and career aspirations, including options like an international exchange or a (research) internship.
- During the first year, you are introduced to important insights and theories about digital culture, identity, community, and art and artists' role in society. In addition, you enhance your critical thinking and acquire academic writing and research skills.
- In your second year, you gain more in-depth knowledge. Alongside the compulsory courses, you customize your program with a range of elective courses or opt for the Taal en Cultuur track (Dutch-taught), which combines the study of Dutch language, literature, media and communication. Finally, you have the option to substitute one elective with a short internship. This experience allows you to explore what it means to be an entrepreneur in the cultural sector.
- The third year offers you the opportunity to create a unique profile with a minor and electives. With a wide range of options at Tilburg University , or even the possibility of an international exchange, there's plenty of room to deepen your expertise during the minor. You will apply your academic skills while writing your Bachelor’s Thesis on a research topic that intrigues you.
When you have obtained your Bachelor's degree, you can consider pursuing a Master’s at Tilburg University, with a unique selection of Master’s programs in the field of Culture Studies. Our graduates secure positions in various sectors, such as digital agencies, online journalism, research, cultural heritage organizations, government, and ministries. Potential roles include creative producer, communication specialist, policy officer, project leader, editor, digital content coordinator, or digital media manager.
