Paid work experience is available in all of our programs. The Faculty of Engineering has built strong relationships with government and industry in Nova Scotia, the Atlantic Region, and Canada. Our high-calibre instruction and innovative curriculum, paired with strong industry partnerships, provide you with unique opportunities for hands-on, real-world learning.
Programme options
You have the choice to complete your first two years of study at either our Halifax or Truro, Nova Scotia campuses. At the end of your first year, you can apply to one of our seven tailored engineering disciplines: chemical, computer, civil, environmental, industrial, mechanical or electrical. Placement in a specific discipline is competitive and based on academic performance in the first year.
After completing your first two years of study, you can choose to graduate with a Diploma in Engineering (DipEng).
Your third year will mark your transition into your discipline, and you can choose to combine your degree with co-operative education. The Faculty of Engineering's co-operative education stream offers students the opportunity to alternate periods of study with periods of university-approved, full-time, paid employment.

What you will learn
With an Engineering degree from Dalhousie, you will be equipped with the problem-solving skills you need for lifelong exploration in a field that answers some of today’s most pressing concerns. You'll also gain a solid foundation in math and sciences, essential for success in any engineering career.
In the first two years of your degree, you will follow the Core Engineering Programme and develop a broad foundation in engineering with courses in math, engineering, science and design. In your third year, you’ll immerse yourself in your chosen specialization.
