Overview
The course is based at our Atlantic House site in the heart of Cardiff’s Business Enterprise Zone. Atlantic House is in close proximity to the major High Street Banks, Building Societies, Insurance companies and firms of Independent Financial Planners, making it an ideal setting for this industry-specific course where you will have plenty of opportunities to put your skills into practice.
In our trading simulation room, you will also experience a hands-on introduction to the theory and practice of securities trading. The University benefits from a network of strong, well-established links with employers. During the second year of the course all students studying this degree undertake a 12 week financial internship, gaining valuable skills that will further enhance employability prospects and set them on the path for an exciting career in this fast-paced industry.
This degree has been developed in consultation with financial services industry specialists, and professional bodies such as the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). As such, graduates will be well-prepared for careers in financial planning, investment management, consultancy and financial services on completion of this degree.
Programme Structure
Year 1
In the first year you will be introduced to the legal/regulatory side of Financial Services, as well as learning about personal financial planning.

Year 2
During the second year, you will develop more specialist financial knowledge. You will also undertake a 12 week financial internship within a bank/building society/insurance company/firm of financial planners, depending on your area of interest, providing a valuable opportunity to put theory into practice.

Year 3
In the final year you will experience trading in the simulated environment of our trading room, and will be introduced to academic research in the finance area.
