Description
The Howell Scholarship in the Chemical Sciences is offered for a sophomore, junior, or senior student.
Benefits
The benefits and monetary value of the scholarship are unknown. This scholarship is renewable.
Eligibility
- Student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, materials science, or related area.
- Students in pre-professional programs (pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy, pre-health professions, pre-law, etc.) are not eligible for consideration.
- Preferably, the student will have initiated undergraduate research in the chemical sciences.
- Selection of the recipient will be based solely on the potential for significant contribution to the chemical sciences.
- Need is not a criterion.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee designated by the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry chairperson.
The decision will be made on the basis of:
Factors relevant to the particular scholarship criteria.
The personal statement and other information provided by the applicant.
Grades in university/college courses, especially chemistry and biochemistry courses.
Participation in the department via research, ACS, or similar.
