Description
The Charles Emmert Physics Education Freshman Scholarship is for an incoming freshman who has declared their major to be Physics Teaching.
Benefits
A one-year credit of $1,000 applied to tuition and fees.
Eligibility
- This award is for an incoming freshman who has declared their major to be Physics Teaching, with an academic index of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants must also satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
- Rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class (for incoming freshmen only).
- Have a combined SAT verbal, math, and written score of 1,500 or above.
- Have demonstrated outstanding achievement in high school and/or undergraduate science and/or mathematics.

You must submit all applications and supporting materials by the first Friday of March to be considered for scholarships for the fall semester. Only students currently enrolled in Ball State—or in process of applying—are eligible for this scholarship.
To apply, submit:
A completed online scholarship application
A double-spaced, typewritten autobiography (two or three pages in length) explaining your goals and aspirations in physics or physics teaching and your financial need
A current transcript of high school (for incoming freshman) or college (for transfer or undergraduate Ball State students) grades
Additionally, you should ask at least two school officials (teachers or administrators) to submit confidential letters of recommendation on your behalf.
