Description

The S & G Higgs Entrance Scholarship, which is made possible by the generous gifting of funds by the current Chancellor Stephen Higgs and his wife Gail Higgs, was established in 2020 when Stephen was serving as Pro-Chancellor.

The scholarship offers a NZD $6,000 amount, to help you with your studies

Eligibility

  • Are New Zealand citizens, New Zealand permanent residents, Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents with domestic fee status;
  • International students who have completed Year 12 and/or have completed or are in the process of completing Year 13 at a New Zealand school, or an equivalent foundation level course at a New Zealand tertiary institution.
  • Are intending to enrol or have enrolled for the first time for first-year (100-level papers), full-time degree-level, undergraduate study at the University of Otago.
  • Those who have studied more than 0.4 EFTs at any University or tertiary institution at degree-level or higher are not normally* eligible.
  • Be studying with a significant disability which will have substantial financial implications for their studies.
  • Have achieved NCEA Level 2 endorsed with merit, or equivalent.
  • The Selection Panel consisting of the Manager of Disability Information and Support, in the chair, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations and the Manager, Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships, or their nominees, shall consider the following factors in awarding the scholarships:
  • Academic ability.
  • The learning disability which makes studying at Otago a personal challenge.
  • Potential and motivation to succeed at university.
  • Financial need and life/personal circumstances which present barriers to studying at the University of Otago.

All applications for Entrance Scholarships are done through eVision, the University's student management system. In order to apply for a scholarship, you will be required to go through the first stages of enrolment at the University of Otago to access the Entrance Scholarship online application.

Closing date: 15 August (if no suitable candidates are found, the due date for submission may be extended).
