History
Since its founding 51 years ago, TU Dortmund University has developed a special profile, encompassing 16 faculties ranging from science and engineering to social sciences and culture studies.
Education
Students at TU Dortmund University can choose from classical subjects and innovative courses of study such as medical physics or degree programs in spatial planning, statistics and journalism. A particular focus is on teacher training. As one of only a few universities in Germany, TU Dortmund University offers professional teaching qualifications for all types of schools.
Research
TU Dortmund University has a strong focus on research. The university’s disciplines, e.g. mechanical engineering with its emphasis on production and logistics, physics, biochemical- and chemical engineering, statistics and computer science, as well as education research, are well known for their outstanding research achievements both nationally and internationally.

Student services
The Academic Advice team is part of the the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB) and provides general academic and study-related counseling. The team can advise you on a wide variety of topics such as study orientation, the application process or how to organize and structure your studies.
Housing services
Student Dormitories
Places in student dormitories are particularly popular: The Studierendenwerk Dortmund allocates over 2,800 places in 11 residential complexes in Dortmund – from single rooms to four-person shared flats. Since the demand is very high, an early application is recommended. In addition, the Studierendenwerk Dortmund offers barrier-free accommodation for people with disabilities and guest apartments for university lecturers who are in Dortmund for a short-term stay.
Library services
We collect general literature about all subjects as well as more specialised literature in the chief areas of teaching and research at TU Dortmund (technology, natural sciences, education, economics and social sciences)
Dortmund University Library holds:

Medical services
For those who want to stay physically fit despite the demands of their studies or jobs and long days in lecture halls or at a desk, TU Dortmund University provides numerous health offerings for students and staff.
Campus life
The North Campus with its main cafeteria, central library and main auditorium forms the heart of TU Dortmund University. Most of the lecture halls and seminar rooms are located here. Another smaller campus is located further south. The H-Bahn connects the two campuses and runs every five minutes.
Sports facilities
The University Sports Office offers a wide range of over 75 classes in fitness, ball sports, dance, etc. A fitness studio is located directly on campus. The team at the University Sports Office also hosts events such as the Campus Run or the Fitness Night.
Student clubs
- International Student Society (ISS)
ISS brings international und native students together, organizes different activities and is involved in many cultural events.
- ERASMUS Student Network (ESN)
ESN Dortmund helps exchange students to integrate during their stay in Dortmund and organizes various activities and events. Along with that, ESN links students from Dortmund returned from studying abroad.
- English Theater Group (ETG)
The English Theater Group is a subgroup from ELSA (English Literature Student Association) at TU Dortmund University. The group has 30 active members who consider it their job to bring together international and native students in a relaxed atmosphere.
