LAU was established in 2016 to provide affordable and quality medical education in Guyana to students from all around the world.
Since its inception, we have made impressive progress. Currently, 150+ students from Asia, Africa, Caribbean and worldwide are pursuing their dream of becoming a doctor with us making us one of the fastest growing medical universities in the Caribbean region.Education
LAU offers a 5-Year MD Program including 1-Year Pre-Medical Program, 2-Year Basic Sciences and 2-Year Clinical Rotations in which students are offered International Clinical Experiences.
MD curriculum is based on US medical curriculum and adheres to United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) requirements.
English is the medium of instruction, and competent and highly qualified faculty members teach the students. We maintain an apt student-teacher ratio to facilitate personalized learning.
The program is designed in consultation with the doctors, healthcare professionals and leaders in the research sectors and fulfills medical licensure requirements of USA, India, Canada, and other countries worldwide.Research
LAU has built state-of-the-art laboratories including Physics & Chemistry Lab, Anatomy Lab, Pathology Lab, and computer lab.
Beyond books and classrooms, we encourage students to pursue their own medical research in our laboratories. Students and faculty members work together on new projects.
To promote research, research exhibitions are organized in the University in which students show the research and science projects they are working on. Students are awarded and honored to encourage them to keep doing great work in medicine.
Constructive criticism, motivation, and feedback provided during seminars and exhibitions also help the students to achieve greater heights in the field of medical research.Career
As students pursue medical education at LAU, they are encouraged to participate in medical outreach programs, seminars, and other career-enhancing activities.
During clinical rotations, students are provided with the option to get clinicals in affiliated hospitals of Asia and Caribbean with developing opportunities in Africa, USA, and other countries.
Our MD Program is recognized worldwide, and international clinical rotations prepare students for the global practice of medicine. Housing services
LAU’s Accommodation facility provides good boarding and lodging facilities with well-furnished rooms.
The University manages hostel and mess facilities and separate hostels are arranged for boys and girls. The hostel is built in the vicinity of the restaurants where Indian, Continental and Intercontinental cuisines are served.
The LAU campus and hostels have an accessible free Wi-Fi facility and equipped with all things required for day-to-day life. To make the students commute easier, we also provide Bus Service to drop the students from hostel to the University and back.
The University is centrally air-conditioned and guarded under complete surveillance, which ensures adequate security of the students.Library services
Students are provided with all the curriculum and required books in print. Further, we provide access to online medical books, reputed journals, and magazines to let the students explore the world of medicine and get the necessary material for their research and medical education.
ICT services
LAU has a well-maintained computer lab with modern computers and Wi-Fi facility. Classes are equipped with projectors and have a proper facility for lecture recording, in case required.
We provide education through simulation systems and provide necessary computerized research facilities. Students are being provided with the students’ online portal – a center for all of their academic requirements.Medical services
For better education, we need better health! We take care of and provide support to maintain the health and well-being of all the students and members of the University.
Ensuring healthy and nutritious food, proper cleanliness across the entire University area are some of the steps of our well-being and healthcare initiative. If required, checkup and treatment facilities are also made available.Campus life
LAU campus culminates our modern classrooms, labs, research facilities, cafeteria, hostel and mess facilities and everything in between.
Faculty members stay in-house with the students on the campus that facilitate a continuous dialog and interaction, supportive supervision and guidance.
At LAU campus, students of different nationalities, caste, religion, color, creed, and ethnicity come together to build a community of one and celebrate the diversity in a culture of inclusion, equality, and friendliness.
In the campus, we keep arranging various celebrations and festivities (including Holi, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, etc.) to keep students’ life refreshing.

At LAU, we have a policy: “Study Well. Play Well. Do It All Well!” We also know well that all work and no play make Jack a dull boy and Jill a dull girl! To keep our students’ lives enliven, we keep arranging extra-curricular and sports activities.
From time to time, we facilitate day-out picnics and trips to explore Guyana’s aesthetic natural beauty, enjoy the delightful Caribbean experience and regain the energy required to move forward on the path of becoming a doctor.
Sports activities and facilities arranged by the University also ensures that students don’t graduate as medical nerds but holistic doctors and professionals.Student clubs
To ensure quick support and resolution of students’ problems and facilitate their all-round development, LAU has formed Students Governing Association (SGA). In the SGA, students with varied interested are designated as members.
In case, any student is facing any kind of issues in the University, be it related to education, classes, professors, hostel, mess or anything, they can seek help from SGA.
Apart from acting as Students’ Support System, SGA arranges different kinds of activities for personal as well as professional development of the students. Arranging meet-ups with medical professionals, seminars, picnics, celebrations, participation in medical outreach programs and blood camps are just a few of them.
