Founded as Florida Presbyterian College, we opened our doors on Sept. 2, 1960, with 155 first-year students and 22 faculty. We have grown steadily over the years and became Eckerd College in 1972.
Every student at Eckerd takes four years of classes across a wide variety of fields – art, literature, the natural and social sciences – regardless of their major. Often called General Education, these courses provide the skills you’ll need to thrive over the long term: critical thought, the ability to make complex decisions and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Career Services will assist you as you plan your graduate program. Students are also encouraged to work with faculty members in their disciplines to prepare for graduate school.

Eckerd College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate degrees.
Overall, I enjoyed my time at Eckerd College. It is a small liberal arts college that enables students to become close with peers, professors, and faculty. Due to its size, the class sizes are small and taught by professors only (no TAs). It also is located on the water in St. Petersburg, FL which has its own perks.
Eckerd College allowed me to learn different perspectives and gave me a good liberal arts degree. I studied religion, anthropology, and language in small class sizes with a lot of discussion. However, I didn't take away a lot of job specific experience which I hope to gain in Graduate School.
