Founded as Florida Presbyterian College, we opened our doors on Sept. 2, 1960 with 155 freshmen and 22 faculty. We have grown steadily over the years, and became Eckerd College in 1971.
The mission of Eckerd College is to provide excellent, innovative undergraduate liberal arts education and lifelong learning programs in the unique Florida environment, within the context of a covenant relationship with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
A focus on creative, innovative curriculum in the liberal arts tradition with a strong emphasis on small classes and world-class faculty who know and care about the success of every student.
The Career Services staff takes pride in providing individualized assistance to Eckerd College students and alumni. Whether they are a first-year student searching for a campus work-study position or an experienced worker at mid-career, our goal is to help students and alumni meet theirs.

Ask anyone who’s been there – dorm life is an unforgettable part of college life. You learn how to ask for what you need and when to compromise. It’s also a 24-hour social scene – all you have to do is walk down the hall to find someone to talk to any time of the day or night. Every hall includes laundry services as well as a student lounge – complete with TV, full kitchen, couches and study nooks – where you can read, chat or make food. All rooms include wi-fi, a phone jack and basic cable (premium services available for a fee).
Eckerd College provides a vast bookstore, where all your academic dillemas can be easily solved.
From the flu to more serious illnesses, the nurse practitioner and medical director in the Health Center are ready to help. The Center accepts most medical insurance coverage and all services are completely confidential.
Our waterfront campus is nestled on 188 acres along Boca Ciega Bay at the tip of St. Petersburg, a dynamic city of arts, culture and outdoor activities. Swimming, boating and sunbathing on our white-sand beach are all just steps away from your dorm room.
With 361 days of sunshine per year, our setting pretty much guarantees year-round outdoor living. From wakeboarding to long boarding, Zumba to weight training, our students stay fit by staying active.
Open six hours each day, our outdoor pool offers six 25-yard swimming lanes and a 12-foot deep tank. Located on Boca Ciega Bay, South Beach has an outdoor pavilion, full size soccer/rugby field and a 100-yard white sand beach.
