History
Toulouse University was the second university to be created in France in 1229, after the Sorbonne in 1200.
However, it is not quite right to talk about the University in France from the Ancien Régime to 1896, as these were only groups of independent Faculties as well as a number of « grandes écoles » in Paris.
Education
Toulouse 1 Capitole University is open to a large public and boasts a large portfolio of diplomas from baccalaureate level to Baccalaureate +8 years of studies in the fields of Law- Economics – Management.
Research
Université Toulouse 1 Capitole’s academic foundations initially started around Law and Political science but the campus has gone through major scientific diversification in the 60s, with the development of further research teams focusing on economics and management.
These relatively new research axes are now well known worldwide: the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) is world famous and the Toulouse School of Management - TSM is also renowned across borders. Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Housing services
- The CROUS (Regional Student Social Support Service) provides rooms and flats in student halls. Accommodation applications should be made at the same time as scholarship applications before the end of April prior to the start of the university year.
- The Youth Information Centre (CRIJ) provides online information about private owners’ offers to students.
- Toul'Box, a complete set of tools for the students who are looking to easily settle in Toulouse
- There is also a number of useful sites: leboncoin, seloger, etc.
- You may also find it useful to resort to real-estate agents.
Library services
There are four libraries on the campus : Arsenal Library, Manufacture des Tabacs Library, Garrigou Library and Boutaric Library.
Campus life
Greater Toulouse, in Midi-Pyrénées, counts more than 850, 000 inhabitants.
Known as " the Pink City" (for the color of brick and clay, the traditional construction materials), it is the cultural, economic and historical capital of Haute-Garonne.
It aggregates a great number of industries in a variety of fields like aeronautics, data information and aerospace and, as such, has become a major European science and technology hub. French third university center with more than 97, 000 students in 2012, Toulouse has been nominated "best student city in France" for the second year in row.
Student clubs
Because art, together with knowledge, is an indispensable tool for promoting innovation and imagination on the campus, for developing creativity in all the fields of UT1 Capitole and for encouraging broader understanding and debating, Toulouse1 Capitole has developed a cultural centre since November 2009. Art is now regular part of the university intellectual life.
