In September 1883, The University of Texas was officially opened in a ceremony inside an incomplete building on a grassy hill where the Tower now stands. Classes that semester were held in the temporary Capitol, a three-story building on Congress Avenue housing state government while the current Capitol was under construction.

Student services

All students are members of Student Government. Student Government's mission is to represent the interests of students and increase student decision-making power; to improve campus life through the creation and continuation of viable and effective student services; to preserve and protect the traditions and legends of UT Austin; and to support students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors. Student Government is comprised of an executive, legislative and judicial branch, as well as policy directors and agency directors.  

Housing services

The University Apartments are reserved for families, graduate students, and undergraduates with at least 30 hours credit and in good standing with the University.

ICT services

The UT Service Desk provides students, faculty, and staff at The University of Texas at Austin with a centralized point of contact for computer help, questions concerning ITS services, and navigating.

The University of Texas at Austin offers students a variety of courses, resources, and experiences. I was able to meet a diverse group of friends and learn from different professors who are professionals in their fields, and I was able to really broaden my horizons and dig a little deeper into who I am and what I want to achieve.
