Overview
Overview
During the Design - Architecture program at University of Melbourne you will learn to leverage increasingly sophisticated digital capabilities to solve problems in an age of environmental change, rapid urbanisation and global flows of people, materials and assets.
Design lies at the heart of the architectural process. You will learn how to use technology to represent environments in 2D and 3D, develop expertise in structural and material systems as well as building science and environmental systems, and gain a deep appreciation for design history.
Your learning will be put into practice in design studio classes. Along with lectures and tutorials, you’ll attend site visits and spend time in the fabrication workshop and research library, where ideas, skills and knowledge can be learned, shared, debated and tested.
In your first and second year you will complete subjects on the foundations of design and be introduced to the design studios. You will complete prerequisites for your major as well as other design core, elective and breadth studies.
In your third year, you will complete 50 points (usually four subjects) of study that is deep and specialised study in design and architecture. You can complete a double major with some study areas in the Bachelor of Design:
- Architecture + Construction
- Architecture + Landscape Architecture
- Architecture + Urban Planning
