Overview
Overview
Diseases are a part of life, and a part of death. Not long ago we didn’t know the root cause of most common diseases. Although we’ve come a long way since then, there is still so much to learn. Pathology is the study of the causes and effects of disease and is the foundation of modern medical practice.
During the Biomedicine - Pathology program at University of Melbourne you’ll explore how changes in the structure and function of molecules and cells are the basis of disease, and you’ll learn how cutting-edge research has led to dramatic improvements in human health.
In the Pathology major you’ll investigate disease caused by genetic, infectious, environmental and immunological injury and explore the consequences of injury to different organs and systems of the body. You’ll also learn about the latest research into common but intractable diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
