Overview
Overview
How the brain works is both fascinating and baffling. And there is still so much yet to be discovered about these living computers.
In the Biomedicine - Neuroscience program at University of Melbourne you'll find out how modern neuroscience interacts with molecular and cell biology, physiology, psychology, and cognitive and information science. You can then take this knowledge and apply it to fields like drug development, behavioural research, brain imaging, or whatever other possibilities your brain can come up with.
You’ll also study the fundamental organisational and functional principles of the nervous system, looking at the biology of nerve cells, neural circuits and neural systems, and how they impact human behaviours such as thought and emotion.
You’ll look at how perceptual and motor systems are organised, the importance of the nervous system in regulating the internal environment of the body, how the nervous system develops, how it has evolved, and the effects of injury, disease and abuse.
