Overview
The Programme from The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is built on the foundation of the ‘Financial Analyst’ role, and closely follows the core competency of the recognised professional standard known as the Chartered Financial Analyst Program Candidate Body of Knowledge™.
Financial analysis is the process of evaluating businesses, projects, budgets and other finance-related entities to determine their suitability for investment. It generally relates to a broad area of appraisal in finance on any economic systems. The BBA in Financial Analysis Programme is predominately investment focused. This will enable them to seek employment in the financial services industry, take professional qualification examinations and have the option to pursue further higher level degrees.
The beauty of this programme is that the BBA aspect is more of a generalist designation while students also have specialisation in the financial analysis topics as in the Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum. The programme is not only suitable for those who have a keen interest in the finance and investment industry and want to develop a career being an analyst, but also suitable for students who want to use the skills developed from the programme for general business management.
Career Prospects
Graduates would naturally place themselves to take advantage of the growth in the financial services and business sectors. In Hong Kong, financial services industry is one of the four pillars industries. According to the figures for Year 2012 as released in a feature article “Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics” by Census and Statistics Department in April 2014, financial services industry employed around 6.3% of the Hong Kong workforce but it contributed approximately 16% of Hong Kong’s Gross Domestic Product. Hence, its value added per employed person is the highest among the four pillar industries.
A financial analyst executes financial analysis for clients (or investors) as a core part of the job. He or she normally performs analysis by gathering information, assembling spreadsheets, writing reports, and reviewing all non-legal pertinent information about prospective investment or transactions. Even with the above description of what a financial analyst normally does, it can still be difficult to navigate today’s financial services job market. In fact, there are plenty of job opportunities for a financial analyst whether in investment banking, the securities industry or other business environment.
