Overview
Created for those working within a technical environment, and commonly already holding technical qualifications (or relevant experience), it is designed to provide skills to effectively and efficiently manage their work areas.
Engineering Management has parallels with Industrial and Systems Engineering which is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, information, equipment, and energy. The degree draws upon specialised knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems (IISE, 2017).
Key Features
- A blended learning approach, drawing on University of Lincoln expertise in delivering online programmes to part-time students in employment
- An innovative and creative approach in teaching, learning and assessment, drawing on a range of digital and technological learning tools
- A learning experience offering students a wider critical perspective on the consequences of individual decisions and actions and on the ethics of being socially responsible, including corporate social responsibility, part of Lincoln International Business School's 'responsible futures principles'
- A clear focus on the student experience and academic, pastoral and professional support and care
How You Are Assessed
For each module there will be an assignment brief which will include details of learning outcomes, the assignment tasks, and weighting of the assignment tasks. Students will submit work using the Virtual Learning Environment. The programme uses both draft and final assessments. Draft assessments are an integral part of the learning process, and students will have opportunities to receive feedback electronically, on all assessment components in line with the University of Lincoln regulations.
Due to the work-based learning nature of the programme, portfolios will be used extensively where appropriate combined with alternative assessment methods. Portfolio assessments could include reports, case studies, descriptions, reviews, reflective learning accounts, presentations, projects, proposals and plans, with accompanying critical commentary. Portfolio assessments are designed to enable students to demonstrate how they have applied knowledge and understanding, skills and behaviours in a real work environment and to achieve real work objectives.
