Overview
Mathematical analysis and modelling, logical reasoning, programming algorithms and working with concepts of programming languages are all important here, and so is collaboration. This is why, at least once a year, you will work on a project with a group of fellow students, designing ‘things’ like an intelligent bot in a computer game.
Curriculum
The Computer Science and Engineering programme at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is intense, so be prepared to work hard. On average, you will spend about 40 hours a week on the programme, including 10 hours of lectures, 12 hours of laboratory courses and projects and 18 hours of self-study. Lectures and textbooks are in English.
The academic year is divided into four ten-week terms. During the first two years, you will have nine weeks of lectures in each period, followed by one week of exams. Each term includes three courses: a fundamental course, a more applied course and a practical course (such as a project).
Besides lectures, you will also work on projects in the first and second year, so you can learn on how to apply the newly gained theory. During these projects, you will adopt a project-based approach to work. Moreover, as an engineer you must also be able to collaborate, make presentations and communicate well. You will start the third year with a chosen minor. And the Bachelor’s degree programme finishes with a graduation project. After successfully completing the Bachelor’s degree programme, graduates may use the title ‘Bachelor of Science’ (BSc).
