The Horticulture program offered by The University of the West Indies provides the student with both theoretical knowledge and a "hands-on" approach to the subject matter. In addition to specialized courses, the programme is based on a solid core of traditional plant sciences courses.
The BSc programme in Horticulture aims to:
- Introduce the characteristics and production systems of major horticultural crops.
- Explain the principles and practices of protection and post-harvest handling of horticultural plants.
- Examine factors which influence the use of plants in gardens, amenity landscapes and for therapeutic purposes.
- Assess the impact of scientific and technical advances on the horticultural industry.
- Train students in horticultural laboratory and field techniques.

General requirements
- Have obtained passes in two subjects at CAPE (both comprising passes in Units 1 & 2) or at GCE A-Level (or equivalent). One of the CAPE or equivalent passes must be an approved science subject preferably Biology. Or:
- Have obtained passes at CSEC Secondary Education General Proficiency Level with grades I,II, or since 1998 grade III (or equivalent) in Mathematics and two approved science subjects (one of which should be Biology or equivalent).
