Description

The University offers a prestigious Black Futures scholarship scheme, for talented UK-domiciled Black and mixed-Black heritage students who want to pursue a PhD at Southampton.

The scholarship is designed to attract excellent students and enrich our academic community by helping to build a diverse community of students and staff that fully reflects the diversity of wider society.

The Scholarship will comprise:

A £20,000 per annum tax-free stipend, for 3.5 years

Full UK fees paid

An annual researcher training and support grant of £1,000 per year, to assist students with their development as a researcher

Eligibility

The Black Futures scholarships are open to applicants who:

  • have identified an academic supervisor who is willing to supervise their PhD project starting in the 2024/2025 academic year
  • have Black or mixed-Black heritage (see below for full details)
  • are resident in the UK and eligible for UK fees.
