Description

This scholarship was established by Dr. Edsel Stiel and Mrs. Laurie Stiel to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated exceptional interest and ability in mathematics.

Benefits

The scholarship offers a $1,000 amount, to help you with your studies.

Eligibility

  • Open to undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics at CSU Fullerton.
  • Currently enrolled at CSUF as a declared undergraduate mathematics major.

Demonstrated real interest and ability in mathematics as evidenced by:

  • High level of performance in advanced math courses and;
  • Record of accomplishments outside of courses, including activities such as:
  • Participation in a REU or other research program,
  • Presentations of research at regional or national meetings,
  • Submission of research or problem solutions to mathematics journals, or
  • A high level of performance in mathematical competitions.

In the "Course Enrollment and Research Interests" section of the Student Application, check off the following option: "I am participating in a research program, presenting my research at academic conferences, and/or submitting my work to mathematics journals or competitions."

In the "Short Essay Questions" section of the Student Application, respond to the following prompt:

"Please describe your special talents, scholastic achievements, and/or creative achievements."

This scholarship is by faculty nomination only. Nominations are made by the Mathematics Department faculty based on the student’s demonstrated excellence in mathematics and related activities.
