Description
The William H. Alamshah Memorial Prize was named for the late William H. Alamshah, professor of Philosophy, founding member and first chair of the Philosophy Department.
Benefits
The scholarship offers $400 first prize and $200 second prize, to help you with your studies
Eligibility
- The award is given annually for the best philosophy essay by a CSUF student.
- Essays are judged by the thoughtfulness of the approach and the skillfulness with which they are executed.
- This award is open to currently enrolled CSUF students who have not previously won the prize.
- No one may submit more than one paper per competition.

Application deadline
Entries are to be in essay form (as opposed to e.g., poetry or film). The suggested length is 2,500 words (10 pages), with a minimum length of 1,200 words (5 pages) and a maximum length of 3,750 words (15 pages). A single entrant may submit no more than two papers for consideration.
The deadline for submission varies, but is generally the end of Fall Semester or the beginning of Spring Semester. Papers should be submitted to the Philosophy Department Office staff. The staff will prepare the papers for blind review by Philosophy faculty.
