Description

The James Alexander Scholarship was established and funded by Professor Emeritus James Alexander to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and been actively involved in their high school newspaper, yearbook or magazine production.

Benefits

The scholarship offers a $1,500 amount to help you with your studies.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Incoming Freshman or Community College Transfer student
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Department of Communications with a major in print or broadcast journalism
  • Must be enrolled full-time in the 2026-2027 academic year
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85
  • Must have demonstrated experience and active involvement in high school newspaper, yearbook, or magazine production

Criteria:

Recipients will be selected based on:

  • Evaluation of the submitted published story, article, or photo
  • Demonstrated experience and involvement in high school journalism activities
  • Academic standing (minimum 2.85 GPA)

Complete the Fall 2026 CSUF Scholarship Application within the Titan Scholarship Portal.

Involvement in Extracurricular Activities: In this section, you must select: I was active in my high school newspaper, yearbook, or magazine production.

Supplemental Materials – Attachments: In the Attachments section of the application, you must upload two distinct components:

A 225-word essay describing your high school writing experience.

A sample of a published story, article, or photo from a high school publication.
