Description
The Mary Lois (Henderson) Stanislav Nursing Scholarship was established to provide an enduring reflection of the love and commitment to the field of nursing by Mary Stanislav. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ball State University in 1971, Mary went on to have a deeply meaningful 41-year career across numerous facets of the nursing profession.
Benefits
The fund was established as a Stable Value Endowment. Endowed scholarships are permanent funds. Spending from endowments is limited to the payout and spending rates approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Every spring the Approved Amount will be calculated from the sum of the Spendable Amounts posted during the prior calendar year. The Approved Amount will be available for awards for the upcoming academic year – which can vary year to year. Until this fund can produce the amount preferred by the donor, an expendable gift of $4,000 has been made to support a $1,000 award for 4 years.
Donor has given an expendable gift of $4,000 to fund a renewable scholarship for 4 years while the fund is growing. Intent is for $1,000 per year until fund reaches endowment then amount is not specified.
Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- Incoming freshmen students pursuing a major in nursing, with an academic index of 3.0 or higher, or transfer students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Application deadline
The School of Nursing will email instructions to all qualified potential applicants early in the spring semester, typically in Feb., regarding how to apply for scholarships for the following academic year. This is the only scholarship application cycle administered by the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing will make award decisions over the course of the spring semester. Recipients will be subsequently notified through the University. Applicants that do not receive an award notification have not been awarded a scholarship for the upcoming academic year.
Incoming Freshman pre-nursing students do not need to apply for School of Nursing scholarships. Confirmation of intent to attend Ball State University the following fall as a pre-nursing major will automatically place a student in the applicant pool for consideration. No additional information or application is necessary.
