Description

This scholarship was created and funded by Hamer and Phyllis Shafer, with additional contributions from the family and friends of Sarah (Sally) Catherine Gibson in November 1993. Mrs. Gibson was a Ball State alumnus with a bachelor of science degree in Nursing.

She served as president of the Ball State University Nursing Alumni Association and was an active member of Sigma Theta Tau.

Mrs. Gibson worked in critical care, the coronary care unit, and both inpatient and outpatient services. She especially loved the personal hands-on element of patient care.

This award is renewable for a second year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Non-traditional students.
  • Accepted by the Nursing Program.
  • Have a minimum GPA of at least 2.8.

Preference is given to students interested in direct patient care.

The School of Nursing will email instructions to all qualified potential applicants early in the spring semester, typically in Feb., regarding how to apply for scholarships for the following academic year.  

Decisions will be made and award recipients will be notified later that same spring semester.
