Description
The University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Latino Studies is proud to announce the Latino Studies Scholars Program (LSSP).
This merit-based, leadership scholarship was created by the Institute for Latino Studies (ILS) as part of its mission to advance the understanding of the fastest growing and youngest population in the United States and the Catholic Church. ILS seeks to attract the best and brightest students with an interest in impacting the Latino community ILS strengthens Notre Dame’s mission to prepare transformative leaders in education, the professions, the arts, economic and civic participation, faith, and family life among Latinos and all members of our society.
The ILS, in partnership with the University of Notre Dame's Enrollment Division, selects recipients.
Benefits
An annual award of $25,000 toward the cost of tuition for up to four years of undergraduate study, for a total of $100,000. This award is independent of any financial aid that a scholar may qualify for and receive.
Three summer enrichment experiences focused on work in U.S. Latino communities, funded up to $5,000 per summer, during the summers after the first, second, and third years of study.
Enrollment in two courses U.S. Latino Catholicism (Theology) and U.S. Transformative Latino Leadership (Political Science), taken in junior or senior year.
Participation in a team-building trip, speaker series, seminars, internships and discussions with national leaders in politics, science, education, and the arts.
Eligibility
- Students of Latino and non-Latino origin with an interest in Latino Studies and a commitment to the future of Latino communities are welcome. Scholars are encouraged to enroll in any college or major at Notre Dame.
Compelling Candidates:
- demonstrate leadership on a Latino issue/topic within their high school, community, church or family
- implement a project or solution to address needs in a U.S. Latina/o/x community
- commitment to make an impact for Latinos in their community + career field
Non-compelling Candidates:
- no history of resiliency factors or overcoming obstacles
- no track record of leading others on a Latino issue in home, school, church or community
- no relationship/involvement in a U.S.-based Latino community or group initiative

Application deadline
A completed application for admission is considered a student’s application for all merit aid. To be eligible for consideration, a student must apply in Restrictive Early Action, with a complete application by November 1, or in Regular Decision, with a complete application by January 1.
