Description

Donna Sakson and Jonathan Mark, Donna's husband, established the HCDE Sakson Diversity Undergraduate Scholarship fund to bring more under-represented minority students into the HCDE department and thus into the profession. "By offering educational opportunities, we expand diversity both in the educational setting and in our professional community," Sakson said.

Donna is a UWTC graduate and former President of Sakson & Taylor, Inc., one of the largest technical documentation companies in the world with offices in Seattle and Vancouver, Washington; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Boise, Idaho.

Benefits

The amount of the scholarship varies each year based on revenue from endowed funds.

Eligibility

  • Current UW student majoring in Human Centered Design & Engineering (HDCE), or current UW student applying to major in HCDE, or applicant to UW and the HCDE program.
  • Full time undergraduate student (10 cr. per quarter)
  • Academic achievement
  • Preference given to US Citizens.
  • Demonstrated interest/understanding of HCDE.
  • Demonstrated understanding or experience with diverse and/or cultural issues.
  • Articulation of how the applicant will contribute to the diversity of HCDE and the field.

Personal statement (1-2 pages) describing achievements and eligibility for scholarship;

Unofficial transcript(s);

Letter of recommendation;

Interview – required of all scholarship finalists.
