Description
Professor Mary Gardner joined the journalism faculty in 1966 where she became the first woman faculty member with tenure. She retired from MSU in 1991 after a distinguished career as a teacher and scholar. In addition to mentoring hundreds of students at MSU and the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Gardner served as the first woman president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Gardner also contributed to the development of an independent press system in Mexico and spent every summer for 20 years running a summer journalism workshop for El Norte, a newspaper in Monterrey, Mexico.
