Description

The Brian Gaynor Initiatives, via the Milford Foundation,has established the Brian Gaynor Scholarship in Journalism, a contestable scholarship to encourageand support final year undergraduate studentsinterested in pursuing journalism, with a focus onbusiness journalism, as a career.

In June 2023, Anna Gibbons established theBrian Gaynor Business Journalism Initiatives (the Initiative).The Initiative was designed to recognise the contributionthat Brian Gaynor (co-founder of Milford AssetManagement Limited) made to business journalism inNew Zealand, and to help strengthen and promote thequality and appeal of New Zealand business and economicwriting and journalism.

Benefits

The number of scholarships available in any given year will be determined by the Selection Committee, valued up to $5,000.

  • The scholarship is open to applications from tertiary students who are in the final year of study towards an undergraduate degree relevant to a career in journalism.
  • Applicants must show an intent to build a career in business journalism

Applications must be made using the Universities NZ online application system.

The online application will request, and applicants must provide:

proof of NZ citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee visa.

university student ID number

full particulars of other scholarships, bursaries or awards which have been applied for, or have been awarded

details of an academic referee able to comment on the business writing skills of the candidate

a sample of business writing not exceeding 1,200 words, suitable to the criteria of the Scholarship

a statement commenting on the choice of academic programme of study and how this relates to future career plans in journalism or related industries.
