Salisbury city life
Salisbury is not a big city, with a continuous hustle and bustle, but it certainly offers some nice cultural attractions and leisure activities, and you can find a lot of spots where you can simply relax, admire nature and discover new things about UK’s historical heritage.
The main attractions in Salisbury are:
- The Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum
- The Queen Elizabeth Gardens
- Salisbury Cathedral – discover the best preserved of the four original Magna Carta manuscripts
- Wilton House
- Old Sarum – a place where you can have a wonderful view of the countryside
- The Stonehenge exhibition gallery
Just eight miles outside Salisbury, Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most popular and famous local attraction.
You can have nice walks in the National Park, Salisbury Plain and the ancient woodland, the New Forest, where you can also practice cycling or horse riding.
You can watch a play at the Salisbury Playhouse and even the City Hall hosts comedy and musical performances (including those by the resident Musical Theatre Salisbury).
Whenever you want to relax and enjoy the company of your peers, you can go to various pubs and bars in the city.
Salisbury’s location allows you to easily see other UK cities, like: Southampton and Bath – both around an hour away by train, or Bristol and the cosmopolitan London, both around an hour and a half away.
International atmosphere in Salisbury
Apart from UK residents, Salisbury is home to several minorities, mostly Asian (Indian, Bangladeshi, Chinese), Irish and Polish.
Salisbury is always visited by tourists worldwide, so you can always encounter many foreigners.
Salisbury is an interesting spot to work and start a business, whether large, big companies, or small firms. Multinational companies have set a local office here, mainly due to skilled and reliable workforce, quality of life and the competitive cost of running a business in the area.
