The University College of Southeast Norway (USN) is the country’s second largest state-owned university college, measured in the total number of students, and larger than several of Norway’s universities.



We have organised our strongest research environments into research groups and research centres that reflect our commercial profile and practical approach to research.

USN has particularly strong regional ties and a focus on applied research. All our programmes are research-based, and students are involved in research projects from the early stages of their education.

Student services

The student counselling is for students who needs to talk about personal or study-related problems.

We offer general counselling, individual conversations, information about rights and to help you come in contact with the right people in the health and social system. The service is free and we have a duty of confidentiality.

Housing services

All campuses provide housing for international students. Our accommodation services are run by the Student Welfare Foundation in Southeast Norway (SSN).

Private rooms, many of them with private bathrooms, and private or shared kitchens are available for all incoming international exchange students, international full degree students as well as local Norwegian students through SSN. In the student houses there is provided Internet access, cable TV and use of laundry services. Please be aware that SSN cannot accommodate several students per room.

Library services

The library at USN has branches in Bø, Drammen, Kongsberg, Notodden, Porsgrunn, Rauland, Ringerike and Vestfold. The library is an integral part of the school's activities in education, training, research and commissioned research. USNs library gives you access to more than 50 databases, 125,000 books, 75,000 e-books and 20 million scientific articles from 13,000 journals, most of them in electronic format.

Student Life

Campus life

Four campuses:

  • Drammen: Is located in Papirbredden – Drammen Knowledge Park, right by the river, in the centre of Drammen, just a few hundred metres from the train station. You will be right next door to numerous restaurants and cafés, as well as a great music and cultural scene.
  • Kongsberg: is located in Buskerud County, Norway. To reach campus you may take the bus to «Krona», or walk about 1,5 kilometers to get there. By feet you will need approximately 15-20 minutes.
  • Ringerike: is located in Buskerud County.There are designated parking spots on campus marked «For students». It might be cramped for space.
  • Vestfold: is located in Vestfold County, Norway. There is about 1400 parking spaces on Campus. Park only on marked spots. Be aware that incorrectly parked cars will be towed away at the owner's expense. If there are no availiable spots, please look for one at the nearby Science Park.

Sports facilities

  • You can do alpine skiing and snowboarding in Kongsberg skiing center
  • In Kongsberg there are several fitness clubs, such as Life, and SENSE; these often provide student-friendly offers.
  • Swimming - public indoor swimming pool, town centre, address - Glabak 14
  • Indoor and outdoor climbing
  • Trekking and hiking, tracks for cross-country skiing - outdoor activities
  • Horseback riding - good possibilities at Stall K, right outside the town centre -
  • Grand Hotel SPA

Student clubs

  • Student Society (Studentsamfunnet) organizes most of the sports and social activities for students. The sports activities vary from soccer, volleyball, handball, mountain climbing to swimming and so on
