About

History

In 1919 The Commercial College (VO) was founded as an independent department of the Czech Technical University. It had specializations in Wholesale Trade, Banking, and the Organization of Industrial Companies.

VE has six faculties offering applicants a broad spectrum of study fields and branches in bachelors, masters and doctoral degree study programs. Five faculties are located in the center of Prague the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, the Faculty of International Relations, the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics and the Faculty of Economics. The Faculty of Management is located in the town of Jindrichuv Hradec. Studies at VE meet the requirements of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

Career

The university is closely linked to the business sector as well. VE graduates find employment easily in the labor market. They get important positions in both the private and public sectors with a focus on various industry fields, the banking sector, accounting and auditing, sales, marketing, or information technologies. Cesk sporitelna, a.s. (Erste Group) is a long-term general partner of VE.

Housing services

For students who do not come from Prague, there are almost 4,500 beds available at the universitys dormitory facilities.

VE offers accommodation at friendly prices in different student residences/dormitories (in Czech: koleje).

The university service in charge of housing issues is the Accommodation Office (Sprva celovch zarzen (SZ), specifically kancelr centrlnho ubytovn).

All incoming exchange students and students of international degree programmes (programmes taught in other languages than Czech, such as ISM and QEA masters at FIS) are guaranteed a place in VE dormitories in Jarov area (close to the Prague city centre campus in ikov) if they are interested in using this option.

Library services

VE provides its students with a high quality study environment and conditions. The university library contains more than 430 thousand books and 330 journals and provides access to numerous electronic databases with e-journals and periodicals on a broad range of topics.

ICT services

Students may use hundreds of computer stations on campus, a wireless network, or Integrated Study Information System (ISIS).

Medical services

Medical services (including dentistry and gynaecology) are available in the area of VE dormitories in Jarov (near VE Prague city centre campus in ikov): for a list see suz.vse.cz.Psychological counselling is provided by VE Development and Counselling Centre (RPC).

Student Life

Campus life

Jindrichuv Hradec is a peaceful South Bohemian city. It is a city with rich history, located near the Austrian border, approximately 50 km north-east from Ceske Budejovice capital of the region. The city has a regular train and bus connection with Prague which is 160 km far from Jindrichuv Hradec. Jindrichuv Hradec is a popular destination for tourists visiting the beauty spots of South Bohemia.It is the city with numerous cultural and historical monuments and one of the largest castle and chateau complexes in the Czech Republic. In the centre of the city, which still retains the pleasant whiff of a royal atmosphere, visitors can find many romantic spots among the winding streets

Sports facilities

The university has its own sports facilities. Students may use the modern, multipurpose sports arena which was opened in 2009. The gym has a surface of 1,400 m2 and is sufficient for three volleyball or two basketball courts, handball, floor ball, indoor football, and other sports. There is an artificial climbing wall and a rehabilitation exercise room. At the dormitory facility area, there is an artificial turf football field. Summer and winter sports courses are organized too.

Student clubs

VE supports many student activities. Examples of these activities include a choir, a chamber orchestra, a folklore group, a film club, a theatre group, and student journals. International student organizations are present and there is a wide-range of interest associations at VE too.

Accreditation

The university is highly appraised both in the Czech Republic and abroad. VE has been certified with the ECTS label and DS Label by the European Commission thanks to correct implementation of the credit system. Both certificates confirm the credibility of VE in terms of partnerships with universities abroad.
