History

City's tradition of providing high quality education relevant to business and the professions dates back 160 years. For many of our graduates, time spent at City laid the groundwork for leadership, innovation and excellence that have changed the world we live in. City joined the University of London federation on 1st September 2016.

Education

City prides itself on its innovative approach to education. Our commitment to, and passion for, academic excellence ranks us 6th out of London universities (The Complete University Guide 2017). Our courses are enriched by the research of our academic staff. 75.7% of City's submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) was rated as being of world leading 4* (23.3%) and internationally excellent 3* (52.4%) quality.

The concurrent focus on business and the professions provides the students with opportunities for direct interaction with future employers and makes our courses relevant, exciting and topical.

Research

City's research focuses on excellence, creativity, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Today, research and enterprise activities are more exciting and diverse than ever; we are passionate about the vital role that research has to play in exploring and disseminating new ideas.

The impact of City’s research is felt around the world. 75% of City’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework in 2014 was rated as being of world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) quality.

Research at City is organised by and takes place in research centres and groups aligned to one or more of our five specialist Schools. 

Career

After you graduate, you can continue to access the Careers Service for up to three years.

City's Professional Mentoring Scheme offers professionals the opportunity to inspire and guide our students through a six or nine month one-to-one mentoring relationship.

Since 2002 the scheme has successfully delivered 1,567 mentoring relationships between professionals and City students. On average the scheme brokers 400 mentoring pairs per annum. With 71 per cent of our mentors City alumni, 13 per cent City staff, and 16 per cent referred to the scheme or recruited by staff, we engage a diverse range of professionals who volunteer their time to mentor our 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates and Masters students.

As well as offering an outstanding academic experience, City, University of London boasts an award-winning Student Centre.

The Student Centre staff is dedicated to supporting your endeavors and ensuring your success at City, University of London. Our team acts as your first port of call to receive friendly, professional and efficient advice and guidance. If you have questions about life at City, University of London, the Student Centre is here to help.

Housing services

City, University of London offers a variety of accommodation options and support services for our students including modern and newly refurbished halls of residence a short walk from the main University buildings, as well as private accommodation.

Students can apply for a place in halls of residence and we guarantee one to all first year undergraduates who accept a place at City before the accommodation deadline.

Library services

City students and staff have access to large printed collections, substantial electronic resources and a wide range of flexible services delivered at our libraries.

ICT services

With over 1,300 workstations, the computer rooms provide a valuable learning resource and give an opportunity for individuals to do coursework and projects. These are open to anyone who is eligible for a computing user account.

Medical services

The Student Health Service is committed to the general well-being of students in helping you fulfil your full potential during your time at City. The Nurse Advisor is available for advice on minor illnesses, accidents and general advice on health matters.

Also, there is Student Counselling & Mental Health Service - comprised of two teams offering confidential psychological and practical support.

Campus life

In the heart of one of the world's most vibrant and colourful cities, the campus of City, University of London offers you a broad student experience - far beyond your curriculum. On campus you'll find plenty of opportunities to meet other students and be an active part of campus life. With more than 50 clubs and societies, you'll always find events, activities and friends here on campus.

Sports facilities

CitySport, the brand new sports centre, is the largest student sports facility in central London. Fitted with the latest and most sophisticated fitness equipment across 3,000m2 of floor space, CitySport provides leading-edge sport and well-being facilities for our students at great value rates. With 100 stations of gym equipment spread over two floors, including the latest consoles with tablet-style screens, internet access and device connectivity are available at the touch of a finger. Both gym floors are fitted with bespoke training rigs, designed to allow an almost limitless choice of body weight exercises. Facilities are the match of any high end gym in London.

Student clubs

Join activities that support your studies (such as volunteering for the student newspaper or the advocacy project) or explore your hobbies and interests. At City you will find more than 50 clubs and societies devoted to a variety of interests, which are all part of the Students' Union.

The program and university staff are amazing for midwifery. The only real issues are finances, as most of our program is practice-based, we often work over 40 hours per week. While this is amazing and a critical reason for my choosing this university, it is quite difficult to support myself financially over the three years.
